PROMOTION OF KONKANI IN ROMAN SCRIPT

Goa Konkani Akademi (GKA) has made special provision for the promotion of Konkani in Roman script for this financial year ending March 2006. GKA requests the writers and organizations and association to take the benefit of the schemes formulated for Konkani literature in Roman script.

Under the GKA's Publication Assistance (pre) scheme a provision for the publication of 2 books of Tiatrs is made. Under the same scheme one more book will be published for which 50% financial assistance will be given by the Akademi. Under the Publication Assistance (pro) scheme upto 100 copies of each book published in Konkani in Roman script will be purchased by the Akademi. A provision to purchase 10 such books is made for this financial year.

GKA regularly purchases Konkani books in both scripts for GKA's Mons. Dalgado Library. This scheme will continue as before. Under the 'Lokved' section, Goa's folklore is documented by the Akademi. Proposals for documentation will be accepted by the Akademi. A provision of Rs. 50,000 (Fifty Thousand only) is made for this activity. Financial provision is also made to publish one book each in Konkani in Roman script on folklore and research work respectively.

Under ' Dictionery' section a provision to publish a vocabulary in Konkani in Roman script is made. Besides a provision of Rs. 50,000/- is made to organize Seminars, Symposia and Workshops for the benefit of writers of Konkani in Roman script. These activities will be organized by GKA alone or with the collaboration of established association / organizations.

There is also a GKA's scheme 'Special Publication' through which the Akademi publishes monographs of eminent personalities in the field of literature, culture, etc. A provision is made to publish one such book. Similarly one more book of eminent writer of Konkani in Roman script will be transliterated in Devnagiri script.

Under the 'Cultural Schemes' one book of Konkani tiatr will be published. Besides GKA's yearly Tiatr Script writing competition continue.

Manuscripts received by the Akademi will be scrutinized by the editorial panel or by the committee appointed by the Akademi or will be sent to an expert of his/her comment. The work of printing will start only if the manuscript is approved. The manuscript will be published in the book form in Konkani in Roman script. however if the writer requests the Akademi in writing that he wishes to publish his book in Devnagiri script, the request will be granted.

The schemes and the financial provision made for the promotion of Konkani in Roman script is limited to the present budget ending in March 2006. Fresh provision will be made in the budget for the year 2006 - 2007 and onwards. If more projects are received by the Akademi from the writers of Konkani in Roman script and if the same cannot be accommodated within the budget provided this financial year, the same will be considered in the next budget.
