GKA releases two Marathi books on the
independent existence of Konkani language

-Goa Konkani Akademi released two Marathi books asserting independent linguistic
existence of Konkani Language, on 6th Dec 2007 at Shri Ganesh Kala Krida Rang
Manch - Pune.
The books are "Konkani
Bhasha:Prakriti ani Parampara" and "Konkani Parichaya". The first is written by
Late Dr.S.B. Kulkarni, Former Head, Dept. of Marathi, Nagpur University dealing
with the existence of Konkani, independent of any language including Marathi,
and the second is Co-written by Prof. Priyadarshani Tadkodkar and Prof. Asha
Mangutkar, a working guide for learning Konkani through Marathi.
Dr. G.M. Dhadaphale, Pali and
Sanskrit expert and the honorary Secretary of Bhandarkar Oriental Research
Institute- Pune released first boo and the second book was released at the hands
of Dr. Suman Belwalkar, former Principal, Western Language Centre(CIIL) Pune.
The sitting Principal of the same centre Smt. K.N. Mehta was the guest of honour.
Shri Anirudha Kulkarni, son of Late Dr.S.B. Kulkarni and Smt. Alaknanda Sule the
Daughter of Late Dr.S.B. Kulkarni also spoke on the occasion.
All speakers asserted the identity
of Konkani Language, Independent of any other language including Marathi. They
said that Konkani is a prosperous language. As such all must welcome her as an
independent language, forgetting misunderstanding and inferiority complex about
this rich language of culturally rich people.
Shri Vasant Joshi, Convener of
Pune Book Fair, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Tanaji Halankar, Vice president of
Goa Konkani Akademi explained the purpose behind the publication of two Marathi
Books. Prof. Bhushan Bhave and Prof. Prakash Vazrikar introduced the contents of
the books. Smt. Priyadarshani Tadkodkar expressed her views on the creation of
the book. In his presidential address, the president of the Goa Konkani Akademi
Shri Pundalik Naik briefed about the development of Konkani Language and the
contribution of Konkani Akademi.
Shri Gopalkrishna Padgaonkar,
Secretary Goa Konkani Akademi offered flowers to the guests. Dr. Jayanti Nayak,
Asst. Secretary proposed vote of thanks.
This program was organised under
Pune Book Fair, where selected Konkani Books were exhibited. Many prominent
Marathi scholars visited the exhibition and appreciated the creativity of
Konkani Literature and purchased books.
