SIXTH YUWA SAHITYA SAMMELAN
This Sammelan was held at St. Xavier's College, Mapusa.
Episcopal Vicar for Religious Fr Kyriel D'Souza urged the youth to inculcate within themselves an interest for literary works in order to promote Konkani language.
He said further, " Konkani is a language that not only binds us together, but also helps us in identifying ourselves to our land and our rich culture."
"Konkani language has a bright future. But all efforts should be made to enkindle young minds in order that they generate a love for Konkani language. This in turn will drive them to embark upon literary works.
Fr Kyriel appealed Goan youth to avoid language controversies. He requested all Konkani writers to provide all assistance and guidance to young Konkani writers to ensure good quality literature. Principal of St Xavier's College Prof Newman Fernandes also addressed the gathering.
President of this Sammelan noted Poet Sanjiv Verekar addressed the writers to highlight the social problems and new challenges in their writings. He also emphasised to spread reading habit. More children's literature should come in Konkani, he added.
President of Goa Konkani Akademi and noted writer Pundalik Naik inspired the young writers to read meticulously the greatest book of all times namely Human Being. Human beings around us provide us the raw material for the expression, he added. Prof Satish Bute also spoke.
Around 500 young writers participated in the 2 day deliberations. Senior writers guided the writers for various genres. Prizes were given in various categories.
